Creator Monetization & Operations Strategy

Matt Wheeler is a professional guitarist and educator who began gaining traction through social media, including viral video content that brought new attention to his teaching. At the time, his business was still built around in-person lessons, with no clear system to turn that growing audience into online services or scalable income.

While visibility and demand were increasing, Matt didn’t yet have the marketing strategy, sales process, or operational systems needed to transition online. As a solo operator and self-professed non–tech-savvy creator, he also didn’t have the time or interest in managing complex digital tools himself. My role was to design and implement the strategy and systems needed to support that transition.

This case study highlights how I helped Matt turn viral momentum into a structured online business, resulting in a successful launch, new passive income streams, and a setup that supports both his business growth and lifestyle.

Matt had recently started posting consistently on social media and was gaining traction, including viral video content, that brought new eyes to his work as a guitarist and educator.

At the time, his business was built around in-person lessons. While demand was growing, there wasn’t a clear way to take advantage of the audience he was already building online or transition that momentum into scalable offers.

He wanted to move into online education and monetization, but didn’t yet have:

  • A clear marketing strategy

  • Defined offers beyond one-on-one lessons

  • Systems to capture, nurture, and convert interest

  • Infrastructure to sell and deliver online programs

Most importantly, while Matt was an expert in his field, marketing and digital business operations were not where his time or focus needed to be. He didn’t have the capacity to learn and implement these systems himself. That’s where I came in.

The Problem

The Strategy

Before building anything, I focused on what Matt actually needed, and just as importantly, what he didn’t need.

There were a few non-negotiables from the start. We needed a way to market his online services, capture interest, and create a clear sales process, while keeping the systems simple enough for him to actually use, without sacrificing a professional client experience.

I also thought beyond the initial launch. If this was going to scale, we needed a plan for ongoing trust-building, including a simple way to collect testimonials and social proof over time.

So the strategy became:

  • Clear positioning and marketing for online offers

  • A straightforward sales process

  • Simple, reliable delivery systems that supported online lessons

  • Lightweight processes that could support long-term growth and credibility

Execution & Systems

Once the strategy was clear, execution focused on building a small number of systems that worked together.

1. Website & Brand Foundation

The first step was creating a professional online home for Matt’s business. We built a full website early on, alongside organizing branding photo shoots so he had high-quality visuals to use across marketing and sales.

Because Matt’s brand is rooted in approachability and fun, the site wasn’t meant to feel overly formal or corporate. We intentionally brought that personality into the experience through welcoming copy, subtle music-related jokes, and small details that made interacting with the site feel more personal, like you were already getting a sense of what working with him would be like. The goal was to create something that felt polished and legitimate, while still reflecting the enjoyment and playfulness of being involved in the guitar community.

2. Funnel & Sales Process

From there, we built a simple, clear funnel.  Traffic from Matt’s social media directed people to the website, where they could apply for online lessons and join a waitlist. Once he was ready to take on clients, we used that list to launch, sending a customized email sequence that introduced the offer and invited interested students to book a short sales call.

This created a straightforward sales process:

  • Interested leads applied

  • Calls were booked

  • Prospective students said yes or no on the call

We also worked together to define the offer itself, landing on a bundled three-month lesson package that made the commitment clear and easy to understand.

3. Lesson Delivery & Client Experience

Once students were enrolled, delivery stayed intentionally simple. Rather than introducing multiple platforms or complex software, each client received their own Google folder, and lessons were run through Zoom with recurring sessions set up in advance. This approach required very little technical overhead on Matt’s end, while still feeling organized and professional for students.

Feedback from clients consistently reflected that this system felt more structured and polished than other online lesson experiences they’d had, despite not being overly “tech-heavy.” The simplicity worked in its favor.

Ongoing Maintenance & Social Proof

After the first successful launch, we also put a long-term maintenance plan in place. To support ongoing trust and credibility, we created a simple testimonial system using a short script of guided questions. Students could easily record and submit video testimonials, which were then added to the website over time. This made collecting social proof sustainable and allowed the site to naturally build credibility.

Results and Impact

With the systems in place, Matt was able to successfully launch his online lessons and transition fully away from in-person teaching.

From the initial launch alone, he generated over $55,000, quickly filling his online lesson roster and validating the offer and sales process we built.

Beyond that first launch, the impact extended well past one-time revenue.

Beyond that first launch, the business continued to compound. With a clear foundation in place, Matt was able to expand into more leveraged income streams, including a course that now generates approximately $2,000 per month in passive income, without the need for active promotion.

Most importantly, the shift to online gave Matt control over his schedule. By removing the constraints of in-person lessons and manual processes, he gained the freedom to structure his time intentionally, allowing space not only for teaching and content creation but also for writing music, traveling, and focusing on the parts of his career that mattered most to him.
